Eating cake for the first time is an important first birthday party activity, so a lot of attention is on the child's high chair.

I gave ours a makeover to match the part decor with a basic pennant banner cut from glittery gray cardstock and a doily-embellished paper fan.

It was a stylish upgrade from the everyday Cheerio-throwing, baby food-tasting function of the high chair!

DIY 1st Birthday High Chair Banner

Supplies

decorative scrapbook paper
number stencil
yarn
hole punch
additional embellishments

Directions

Step 1: Cut out pennant-shaped flags from one sheet of scrapbook paper. You can freehand these or make a template to trace so all the triangles are the same size.

Step 2: Cut out each triangle or flag and punch two holes in the top.

Step 3: I made a center medallion for the high chair banner by making an accordion-folded paper fan with a paper doily in the center and gluing a number one to the front. Here's the how-to to create this easy party decoration!

Step 4: Cut a piece of yarn to fit around your high chair. Thread it through each triangle leaving a space in the middle for the paper medallion. Use hot glue to attach the medallion to the yarn.

Step 5: Tie the banner to your high chair.

I also used a piece of yellow cardstock to make a party hat for the birthday girl.

I was able to personalize the hat for the occasion using the same doily and sparkly number one treatment I used on the high chair banner.

It is a quick and easy craft that adds the perfect accent to a first birthday party.
