Food & Drinks for Alice in Wonderland Theme Party

You'll need great beverages and food to serve up at your Alice in Wonderland birthday party. Use these ideas for creating the perfect menu to serve at your event.

  • To mimic the Mad Hatters tea party, serve small bites of food on platters and tiered cake stands down a long table.

  • Instead of doing this buffet-style on a separate table from the dining table, work the platters and tiered stands into the decor of the dining table so guests can help themselves once they are seated. Having a cluttered table overflowing with decor and food is part of the experience, and is just the way the Mad Hatter and March Hare would have wanted it.

Small bites are ideal since they can be picked up by hand and eaten with minimal fuss. It also eliminates the need to serve each guest individually and allows for more guest interaction with the passing of plates and platters encouraging conversation and making for a more fun party.

Consider some of these small bite foods:

  • Selection of mini tea sandwiches with the crusts cut off
  • Fruit platter
  • Mini mac and cheese square bites; alternately, serve mini portions in ramekins
  • French fries served in shot glasses with a bit of ketchup in the bottom of the glass
  • Little mini party sausages of varying types (chicken, pork) and a selection of mustards
  • Small pretzel bread bites
  • Platter of cookies and mini desserts
  • Single serving size crudites served in shot glass with ranch dressing dollop at the bottom

For each item of food on the table, create a hang-tag or place card style label to tie onto the tray or cake stand. On the tag, use a black calligraphy pen to write the name of the dish on one side and "Eat Me" on the other side, a la Alice in Wonderland.

Alice in Wonderland Party Beverages
Keep the theme going by creating a "Drink Me" sign for the beverages served at the party and tie everything together.

Create a signature drink menu to compliment the tea served at the tea party table, with delicious mocktails that are as tasty as they are attractive and theme-appropriate:

Mocktail Beverage Menu:

  • The Chesire Cat: sparkling blackberry juice and red grenadine garnished with red wax lips attached to a cocktail sitter
  • The Red Rose: a mocktail cosmo (substitute vodka for pink lemonade), garnished with a small red spray rose on a pick
  • The White Queen: refreshing mocktail mojito (simply substitute rum for sparkling club soda), garnished with a mint leaf
