Fun Entertaining Ideas for Bridal Showers

Although bridal showers have the reputation of being the boring, fussy aunts of the more fun bachelorette party, there’s no reason a bridal shower has to be a snooze fest.

If you want to ditch the idea of tea and cookies, but you aren’t ready to do body shots off of strangers in bars, there is an in-between.

With the right entertainment you can plan a bridal shower that’s fun without winding up in the tabloids.

One thing to keep in mind is that, contrary to popular opinion a bridal shower is the only wedding event that actually IS about the gifts!

The name comes from the idea of “showering” the bride with the gifts that she’ll need to start her new married life. It’s why showers often have themes like “Kitchen” or “Bed & Bath” and why one of the main forms of entertainment at the bridal shower is opening gifts.

You don’t want other entertainment to overshadow the gift giving and opening, but plenty of entertainers can compliment a traditional shower while giving it a hipper vibe. 

Why not invite a surprise “guest” such as Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, Madonna or other celebrity impersonator to help celebrate with you? Or turn your guests into celebrities by having a caricaturist do portraits as party favors while the bride is opening presents?

In many cultures, Henna plays an important part in wedding traditions. You can bring some of that flavor to your party by hiring a henna artist to decorate the bride and guests in discreet, or not so discreet locations (depending on how far before the wedding the shower is).

Because of their focus on femininity, belly dancers make excellent entertainers for a bridal shower. You can hire a belly dancer to teach a simple routine to you and your guests, working off that cake and providing some fun bonding time.

Readings from an astrologer, fortune teller, or tarot card reader can be great ice breakers for a group that doesn’t know each other well.

For a rowdier shower, or a shower that’s going to move from shower to bachelorette party, bring in some karaoke and cocktails. This will give the hosts a chance to straighten up while you all prepare for a night on the town.

Whatever you do, remember, friends don’t let friends have boring bridal showers!
