This gravy is the perfect finish for so many dinner recipes, particularly those holiday entrees. Rather than making gravy from those packets you find in the grocery store, mix up one at home that's simple, delicious and perfectly suited to top whatever you serve at dinner.
This particular recipe of mine is a basic recipe that will work with whatever wine you have on hand, which is perfect as you'll probably use the wine you're actually serving with your meal!
Feel free to work in other ingredients as you please, but don't overdo the embellishment here - really, what's so fantastic about this is the simplicity of the gravy. It compliments, but won't overpower your entree.
1/2 cup White Wine
1/4 cup Flour
1/4 cup Stock (or water)
1 Pinch Salt
1 Pinch Pepper
Deglaze whatever pan you used to make your meat by pouring in your wine. Using a wooden spoon, gently, but firmly scrape up any bits of flavor that are in your pan. Stir vigorously to remove seasonings from the bottom of the pan.
Next, add in the flour and continue stirring until it's pretty incorporated. Then add in your salt, pepper, water and any other seasonings you're using and let simmer for 5 minutes. Watch closely so as not to boil!
If you want your gravy thicker, add in more flour a little at a time. To thin, add in more stock. Once your desired thickness has been achieved, pour into your favorite gravy boat and serve!
