Handmade Christmas Ornament: Swirl Design

Nov 21, 2011

In this video, Mary Gallagher Stout shows us how to create hand painted glass ornaments. Christmas activities are fun to do with your kids on a cold day as it will let them use their creative energy and create a beautiful ornament to hang on the tree for years to come.

This is also a wonderful craft to make at a Christmas party and is great for people of all ages.

Supplies

Glass bulbs with removable lids.
Medium (Acrylic flow Release)
Paint (colors with which you wish to work)
Plastic egg carton
Decorative ribbon

Directions

Remove lid from glass bulb.

Coat the inside with medium we are using acrylic flow release from golden. Very concentrated, must be diluted 1to 10. Swirl to coat inside bulb, sum extra out when you have a good coating.

Add one color of paint and swirl around.

Add  second color of paint.  Using the same swirling  technique; however, but do not move it around too much, as the colors may mix too much creating an muddy color. Swirl  just  enough to get a nice variation.

Add your third color and swirl until you are happy with the colors and design. Place the ornament in a plastic, egg container upside down to let dry overnight.

Once dry, re-insert  lid and tie on a decorative ribbon.
