If you’ve got a coffee or tea drinker for a dad, then the perfect Father’s Day gift is only a few shakes away.

Flavored sugar is all the rage this season, and is an easy and inexpensive way to spice up any hot or cold beverage or add a touch of flavor to simple baked goods. Whether your dad opts for spicy, fruity or herbal flavors, he’s sure to appreciate a thoughtful and undeniably sweet gift like this one, and we have a feeling Mom might love it too!

Supplies

Granulated sugar
Citrus fruit peels
Crystallized ginger
Whole cloves
Small jars with lids

Directions

For citrus sugar:

Cut fruit peels into small pieces, removing any remaining pith. Let peels dry overnight on a paper towel or plate to prevent moisture from clumping sugar.

In a small jar alternate layers of sugar and peels until almost filled to the top and seal.

Once a day for about a week shake the jar vigorously to disperse the flavor. You may remove and discard peels or keep them as a colorful garnish. Keep in sealed jar for up to 3 months.

For ginger and clove sugars:

Repeat lasts two steps, and let sit a little longer than a week for a stronger flavor. Keep in sealed jar for up to 6 months.
