Give your homemade Valentine’s Day decor some added love with this cute and creative DIY table cloth idea. There's no easier way to add festivity to your decorations for Valentine's Day than with lots of "XOXOs" and this simple craft idea will have you stamping just about every surface you can!
Using large DIY X and O stamps, you can create your own unique graphic pattern for any fabric sufrace you want to turn into homemade Valentine's Day decor. You could try using different colors in your fabric or your paint to customize it to your theme.
X’s and O’s are perfect for Valentine’s Day, but when done in neutral tones, they are still versatile enough that you could use this tablecloth again for anniversaries, birthdays, or date nights at home.
To suit my wintery, eclectic, and modern Valentine’s Day table setting, I used a white store-bought tablecloth and stamped with glittery silver soft fabric paint to match the hearts and branches centerpiece.
Craft foam sheet
Scrap wood blocks
Strong adhesive (like Gorilla Glue)
Soft fabric paint (you’ll use at least 4 ounces)
Newspaper or large piece of cardboard
Step 1: Wash and dry your tablecloth. Iron, if necessary. Before laying on top of your table to stamp, place newspaper or a large piece of cardboard between the tabletop and fabric. We learned the hard way that the paint will bleed through!
Step 2: To make your X and O stamps, first decide how large you’d like your letters to be. Mine are about 3.5” x 4”. Using some scrap wood boards, cut two pieces to your size.
Step 3: From your craft foam sheet, cut out two pieces the size of your wood blocks. Then, sketch out a basic X and O shape and cut them out. They don’t need to be perfect – but you could pick a font and print out large letters, then cut and trace them onto your foam sheet instead of sketching your own.
Step 4: Assemble your stamps by gluing your foam X and O onto your wooden blocks. I used Gorilla Glue and clamped them for five minutes to dry.
Step 5: Use a small paintbrush to apply a light, even coat of fabric paint to your stamps. Beginning in one corner, start stamping a random pattern.
Press firmly while stamping to ensure that all the paint transfers. Alternate letters and turn them in all directions for an all-over, random pattern.
Continue until the entire tablecloth is covered. (Warning: this may take a few hours!)
Make sure the paint is completely dry before removing your newspaper/cardboard and topping off with your centerpiece and table setting!
