Dinner Party Game: How Many? How Much?


Get your guests really talking with this guessing game.

Type: Pre-party, self contest.

Supplies: Paper and pencil

Formation: Use one or more of these items set out on a table. Number each item you use and indicate whether you need the weight, number of pages, and so on.

Object of the game: To get the most correct answer.

No touch examples:

  • Jar of peanuts: How many?
  • Oranges with seeds: Number of seeds?
  • Scrap of newspaper: Number of words?
  • Glass of water: Quantity (in ounces)?
  • Dictionary: Number of pages?
  • Table lamp: Height?
  • Long string: Length?
  • Photo of baby: Age?
  • Stack of notes: Number of sheet?
  • Head of lettuce: Weight?

Play action: Guests may not pick up or touch objects in any way.

Hints and tips: This activity can be done without verbal directions or monitoring. Construct a stand-up sign with the instructions printed on it; advise players to leave signed answer sheets in a box. Hold it open until, say, 9:00 p.m. Sometime after nine o'clock, your assistant can check the guesses against the correct amounts. Give one prize to the closest guess, a small prize for each is suggested.
