How to Host a Christmas Tree Hunting Party

Do you want to throw a holiday party, but you’re feeling overwhelmed by the competition? Those last few weekends before Christmas are often packed with office parties and fancy cocktail bashes - so this year, get an early start and do something different!

Plan your Christmas party for first weekend of December when holiday schedules aren't as booked. Start with a low-key brunch at your home and then head out as a group to go Christmas Tree Hunting. This is a really fun and easy party activity – and let's you check getting a Christmas tree off the list of holiday to-dos.

Preparation

To feed your crew, you can make a few breakfast casseroles the night before and warm them in the oven the day of the party.  I’d suggest a yummy egg strata and a potato casserole with muffins on the side.  (Apple cinnamon or pumpkin are perfect for this season.) If you’re feeling really ambitious, whip up fresh pumpkin pancakes. Does your crowd love spicy food?  Serve all the fixin's of a breakfast burrito bar, complete with different salsas.

The Tree Hunt

Once your guests tummies are full, it's time to head out. You can bring everyone to your family’s favorite tree lot, or use this an excuse to branch out. 

Search around your area before your party. Is there a fabulous cut-your-own-tree farm near your house? Or a great lot with already cut trees, a Santa, and festive music playing? 

The place(s) you choose should be close enough by your home, but also have great Christmas atmosphere. Prepare a map to hand out to each car as people leave for your next destination. 

Party Snacks

You can also bring coffee, hot chocolate, and spiced cider for guests. Be sure to have to-go cups ready for guests to take with them on the tree hunting adventure.  (See if you can buy some paper to-go cups with lids from your local coffee shop so you’ll have plenty on hand for the party.)

Party Favors

Consider giving festive party favors as well to thank guests for taking time our of their busy holiday schedule to get together. A small Christmas ornament is the perfect favor (you can often find them in the dollar section of your favorite discount retailer) or a bag of trail mix with red & green candies added (to give strength for the hunt that lies ahead.)
