Banners are such a fun way to tie color and theme into your party. From “Happy Birthday” to “Welcome” there are all kinds of things you can put on a banner to relay the reason or message of your celebration to your guests (i.e. “Sweets” on a sweets table!)
In the case of this Family Reunion, inspired by the darling invitation set by Pear Tree Greetings, I chose to use a simple, striped word-free banner created from scrapbook paper to hang behind my food table for added color.
You have so much freedom with these to do basically whatever you want to do from shape to color to text. You often see banners in an upside down hanging pennant shape or even circles. In this case, I cut the tips of a 5 x 7 rectangle to make it look more flag-like - very summery!

Supplies
Scrapbook Paper (12 x 12)
Scissors or Paper Cutter
Hole Punch
Grosgrain Ribbon, Raffia, String, Twine or Fishing Wire
Invisible Table or Push Pins
Directions
Here are step-by-step instructions on how to make your own fun, colorful banner:
Find patterned (or solid) scrapbook pattern that coordinates with your color scheme (I like to use 12 x 12 squares)
Cut out whatever size or shape banner flags you wish (I typically use a 5 x 7 rule for rectangular flags or a 5 x 5 circle)
Punch one or two (depending on how you want your banner to hang) holes at the top of each flag in order to string your ribbon/twine through
Weave your ribbon/twine through the holes until each flag is hung, spacing them evenly
Attach to your wall, table, banister or fixture with removable adhesive or thin push pins
Enjoy your quick and easy decoration that will give your party a cute pop of color!
