One of the most challenging aspects of wedding planning is selecting a theme.
The theme acts as a blueprint for all of your ceremony and reception plans. So while you may think that coming up with a theme is too difficult, once you do so, it will actually make your planning much easier!
Keep in mind that themes can be as elaborate or as simple as you desire. One example of a really simple theme to pull off is Christmas.
The ceremony décor might then typically include poinsettias and a red aisle runner. The reception colors would naturally feature green and red.
You might replace table centerpieces with elegantly appointed miniature evergreens and float beautiful ornaments in crystal bowls.
Sourcing all of these items will be extremely easy, as well, particularly as you get closer to your wedding date, as retailers will have stocked their shelves with holiday merchandise.
Now that you have an idea of how easily a theme can be pulled off, here are a few general ideas to consider:
Sports – if you and your fiancé enjoy tennis, golf, scuba diving or any number of sports activities, make that your theme by including related objects in the décor.
For instance, surround a chartreuse centerpiece with a clear bowl filled with tennis balls. Give out mini-tennis set chocolates as favors and use tiny rackets are place card holders.
Travel – scour the internet for old stamps and maps, or gather up antique postcards to scatter around the tables.
Luggage tags can be used as place card holders, and send invitations inspired by passports.
Literature – have a stacked-book custom wedding cake on display. Frame your favorite book covers and place a nice variety on each table.
Give out novelty poetry books as favors and order custom bookmarks for seating cards.
Music – ask your florist to incorporate coned sheet music into the centerpieces. Place miniature brass musical instruments on tables, and use musical notes place card holders.
Have a fun sing-along at the ceremony, after the exchange of vows!
