The most memorable bashes are theme parties. Think back, you may not remember Aunt Dottie’s 40th birthday party, but you sure do remember that awesome 80s bash she threw. With that said, these parties also tend to be more involved, with special attention payed to every detail.
Since this party takes some planning ahead of time - not only on your part, but for your guests, as well. They need time to prep their fabulous costume to match your theme! That means the invites are super important as they let your guests know not only where and when the party is, but lets them in the theme as well!
Just because they are informative, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with your invites, either! If you’re hosting a 70s disco theme party, send out invitations in the shape of disco balls. Or maybe you’re hosting a beach bum party? Send out invites made out of sun block bottles or even seashells! If you’re crafty, you can really have some fun with creating the invitations by using various fabrics and embellishments.
Since this is a theme party, you’re going to want to turn your home into a believable setting for your bash. Hang things from the walls, ceilings, and even tables! Use festive drink charms to help get your guests in the theme party mood as well as help separate drinks.
Your most memorable piece of décor is your guests and the costumes they come in! That’s why it’s super important to have backup costumes in case of party poopers. You can even create custom t-shirts with your own design for them to wear. Maybe you want to go all out and have the shirts embody your favorite parts of the theme, or maybe you want to just have the words party pooper on them as punishment for not joining in on the fun. It’s your design, so have some fun with it!
Have some fun with your festive menu! Since this is a theme party, after all, skip the traditional garden salad and cheese on a stick, and opt for a more festive menu. Your theme inspired menu is sure to be a topic of conversation. Play up the theme even further by topping your foods off with identification flags that fit into your theme, of course. It’s a great way to let your guests know what’s on the menu (those aren’t just cheese fries, they are disco fries!) and brighten up your food spread.
If you’re having trouble coming up with a menu for your decade theme, use popular movies from that time period to help inspire you. Or, brush up on your history and dedicate dishes to important events that happened in that decade.
And of course, every theme party needs a signature drink! Mix up your own, or grab a tasty cocktail recipe from Celebrations - which we have gladly mixed up and taste tested!
