An Italian ice cream dessert, tartufo is a chocolate shelled dessert filled with ice cream and a fruit filled center. Typically, you'll find two or more ice cream flavors in tartufo.
Our recipe however, keeps things a bit more simple, which makes it a hit at every party we host. Kids and adults alike will enjoy this dessert. And if you do prefer to use more traditional ingredients you can - just replace the cookies and cream ice cream with whatever two flavors you'd like.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 pints of cookies and cream ice cream
15 Oreo cookies, finely crushed
1 1/2 Cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
4 teaspoons vegetable oil
Whipped Cream
Fresh strawberries for garnish
Directions:
Using a 1/2 cup ice cream scoop, form ice cream into six balls; roll in crushed cookies. Place on a wax-paper-lined baking sheet. Cover and freeze for 2 hours.
Heat chocolate chips and oil in a saucepan over low heat until melted and smooth. Cool slightly. Place the frozen ice cream balls on a wire rack and ladle 2 tablespoons of melted chocolate over each ball; coating the top and sides. Freeze at least 1 hour or until firm.
Place each tartufo on a plate and cut into quarters, keeping the bottom intact. Garnish with whipped cream and strawberries.
