Kentucky Derby Style Kids Hat Contest

To some Derby goers, choosing the perfect hat to wear for the day is as important as the race itself. Kids and tweens (even boys may want to participate) will enjoy wearing special hats for a Derby-style hat contest.

• Invite friends and young family members over wearing hats of their choice, the wackier and more elaborate the better.
• Younger kids may enjoy making outlandish hats. Buy inexpensive hats at craft or party stores, and provide them with feathers, sequins and other fun embellishments to decorate with.
• Offer a variety of awards for the decorated hats such as Prettiest Hat, Biggest Hat and Best Themed Hat. Give out miniature trophies or roses to the winners.
