Kid's Cards: The Traditional Turkey Handprint

This easy handmade Thanksgiving card is perfect for the kiddies to craft.

Supplies

  • Brown cardstock craft paper (2 sheets per card)
  • Red, orange and yellow kid-friendly, non-toxic paint pens
  • Paintbrush
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Googly eyes for the turkey
  • Strong glue stick

Directions

Step 1. Use the pencil to trace out your child's handprint onto one of the pieces of cardstock. Cut out with the scissors and allow the child to use the paint pens to color in the fingers, which will make up the turkey's feathers.

Step 2. Cut out the body shape for the turkey from brown cardstock craft paper, which should be a circle. Cut out a small oval that will be glued coming out of the top of the body for the neck and head.

Step 3. Using the yellow paint pen, draw a small triangle-shaped yellow beak on the turkey's head. Above the nose add the signature gobbler with the red paint pen.

Step 4. Affix the googly eyes above the turkey's nose with the strong glue stick, and then glue the hourglass shaped body to the center of the hand cutout.

Step 5. Finish the homemade Thanksgiving turkey card by adding this sweet poem to the back of the hand:

This isn't just a turkey as you can plainly see.
I made it with my hand which is a part of me.
It comes with lots of love especially to say,
I hope you have a very,
Happy Thanksgiving Day!
