If bourbon is not your thing, why not try the Kremlin Colonel, a variation on the mint julep that substitutes vodka for bourbon?
Bourbon with its notes of toffee and vanilla has naturally sweet characteristics. Since vodka tastes considerably less sweet, you may opt for more simple syrup.

Ingredients
- 2 Oz vodka
- A dash of simple syrup
- Fresh mint leaves
- A spring of mint (for garnish)
Directions
- Fill a highball glass with crushed ice.
- Muddle mint in the bottom of a shaker.
- Add vodka and a dash of simple syrup to desired sweetness. Add ice and shake.
- Strain over the crushed ice and garnish with a mint sprig.
