Mad Men Cocktails

Mad Men fans know that drinking plays a huge role in the series. Honor the spirit (pun intended) by pouring stiff libations popular in the 60s. Heres a list of classic Mad Men cocktails to stock the bar with (recipes below):

  • Tom Collins - Betty orders these on occasion
  • Campari - Salvatores fruity fave
  • Brandy Alexander - Peggys drink of choice
  • Scotch - Don and Roger love their scotch
  • Old Fashioned - Another one of Dons favorites
  • Vodka Gimlet - One of Bettys favorites
  • Heineken - The Holland beer served at the Drapers dinner party

Tom Collins

Ingredients:


  • 2 fluid ounces gin
  • 2 fluid ounces lemon juice
  • 1 fluid ounce simple syrup
  • 1 dash bitters
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1/4 cup cold club soda
  • 1 slice lemon, for garnish
  • 1 maraschino cherry

Preparation:

1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and a dash of bitters.

2. Cover and shake until the outside of the container is frosty, about 15 seconds. Strain into a highball glass full of ice.

3. Top off with club soda and garnish with a lemon slice and maraschino cherry.


Brandy Alexander

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz brandy
  • 1 oz dark creme de cacao
  • 1 oz half-and-half
  • 1/4 tsp grated nutmeg

Preparation:

1. In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the brandy, creme de cacao, and half-and-half. Shake well.

2. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with the nutmeg. Enjoy.

Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz bourbon whiskey
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 splash water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 maraschino cherry
  • 1 orange wedge


Preparation:

1. Mix sugar, water and angostura bitters in an old-fashioned glass.

2. Drop in a cherry and an orange wedge. Muddle into a paste using a muddler or the back end of a spoon.

3. Pour in bourbon, fill with ice cubes, and stir. Enjoy.

Vodka Gimlet

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 1 tsp powdered sugar


Preparation:

1. Pour ingredients into a shaker and stir.

2. Strain into a cocktail glass, and serve.
