As the weather gets warmer, you probably don't have much use for your bulky winter comforter anymore. As you get into spring-cleaning mode, look at your old winter clothes with a creative eye. They could just end up becoming your new funky, stylish summer quilt!

1. Follow the "Six Months Rule." Sort through your closet and dresser for anything you haven't worn in the past six months or longer. Don't forget your linen closet as old towels and sheets will work well for the craft, too.
2. Divide your unwanted clothes and linens into two piles: one for Goodwill and one for your summer quilt.
3. Cut the fabric of each piece into even squares (about 8" by 8") with sewing sheers.
4. Take a solid colored top sheet the same size as your bed and use it as the base of your quilt. You will be sewing your fabric squares onto this sheet.
5. Using a sewing machine, sew rows of the fabric squares together the same width as the base sheet. You will probably end up with about 12 rows of fabric (each row containing 10 8"x8 squares sewn together) in order to cover an 96" long sheet (Queen sized).
6. Sew your rows of fabric onto your base sheet row-by-row and then hand-stitch the corners for reinforcement.
