Maracas are a great toy anytime. When you make them as a Cinco de Mayo party craft, you can talk about how they are used in Mexican culture. When the maracas are completed, let kids put on a performance or use them during a Mexican hat dance activity.

Directions

  • Supplies
    • 2 Styrofoam bowls
    • O-shaped cereal
    • Popsicle sticks or wooden dowels
    • Hot glue gun
    • Acrylic craft paint
    • Stickers, sequins and other craft embellishments
  • Fill one bowl about halfway with o-shaped cereal.
  • Use hot glue to attach the top of a popsicle stick or dowel to the edge of the bowl.
  • Glue the second bowl on top of the first.
  • Use paint and craft supplies to decorate the bowls.
  • Let the paint dry before shaking the maracas.
