Maracas are a great toy anytime. When you make them as a Cinco de Mayo party craft, you can talk about how they are used in Mexican culture. When the maracas are completed, let kids put on a performance or use them during a Mexican hat dance activity.
Supplies
2 Styrofoam bowls
O-shaped cereal
Popsicle sticks or wooden dowels
Hot glue gun
Acrylic craft paint
Stickers, sequins and other craft embellishments
Directions
Fill one bowl about halfway with o-shaped cereal.
Use hot glue to attach the top of a popsicle stick or dowel to the edge of the bowl.
Glue the second bowl on top of the first.
Use paint and craft supplies to decorate the bowls.
Let the paint dry before shaking the maracas.
