Make Your Own Garden Markers

With winter finally out of here, we're so excited to head out into the yard (or flower box for us apartment dwellers) and get our gardens growing!

Each year we plant though, we always run into the same problem - markers for plants and flowers that come along with the seed packets either get carried away by the wind or are so damaged by exposure to the other elements that they prove pretty useless.

So, we recently put on our thinking caps and came up with a cute, crafty alternative to those boring markers.

These DIY garden markers are bright, durable and so easy to make. Make these with the kids as a way to get excited for Earth Day and Spring, or as a handmade Mother's Day gift for Mom!

Supplies

Sweet Treat Cups by Stampin Up
Mini Glue Dots®
Memory Book Glue Dots®
Seed Packages
Large Craft Sticks
Ink Pads
Alphabet Stamp Set

Instructions

First, cut the front off the seed packet off. Then, trace the outside of the sweet treat cup onto the seed paper and cut out the circle. The idea is to be able to identify the marker using the label.

Next, place some or all of the seeds (depending on the size of the seeds) inside the sweet treat cup and adhere it to the circle. If you have the right size punch the circle needs to be 2.25" in diameter.

The photos on the seed packages are usually just the right size for the sweet treat cup. Then I programed into my Pazzles Inspiration a flower with a center hole that measures 1.75" in diameter to accommodate the raised center of the sweet treat cut. Using Mini Glue Dots® (I prefer the ones on the sheet for this project) I adhered the flower over the lip of the sweet treat cup.

Finally, pull out the Staz On ink pads and alphabet stamp set and stamp the name of the fruit or vegetable on the large craft stick before adhering it to the back of the flower with a Memory Book Glue Dot®.

You can now use these markers for your own garden or give them away has homemade gifts!
