So many of us love mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce, but I bet you a million dollars that you've never made it on your own. It's so funny how we always order them in a restaurant (where they're most likely frozen), yet never think about making this yummy treat fresh at home.
Fresh mozzarella sliced and breaded, then popped into oil to fry is one of the creamiest, savoriest and delicious appetizers to serve at parties. They're so easy to make, too - bread them all ahead of time and then fry once you're ready to serve. It takes mere seconds and is best enjoyed warm.
1 pound of Mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup of flour
1 egg beaten
1 cup of vegetable oil
1/2 cup of bread crumbs (seasoned Italian)
4 tablespoons Parmesan cheese
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
A small batch of Marinara sauce
Cut your cheese into a desired shape - work with whatever is easiest for you. You'll want the cheese to be about 1/2-inch thick.
Add the Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning to the already seasoned bread crumbs and mix.
Roll the cheese in the flour, then dip in the beaten egg, then dip into the bread crumb mixture.
Heat no more than 2 inches of oil in a medium skillet. Once the oil is hot (it will smoke slightly) gently add in your mozzarella and fry for 20 to 30 seconds on each side or until golden brown.
Serve with your own homemade Marinara sauce!
