Easy Neon Cupcakes

It’s summer and things are getting hot hot hot, which is why these chocolate cupcakes have decided to go naked. They may look like ordinary unfrosted cupcakes, but these sweet treats have a deep, not-so-dark secret.

Just one bite into these warm chocolate cakes and their true colors will be revealed.  Our cream-filled cakes offer a shocking alternative to your run of the mill cupcake and add a blast of bold color with every bite.

Kids will love these mysterious cupcakes and their inside-out appeal that makes them a must-try for your next birthday party. Neon gel colors are the trick to achieving such eye-catching and bold hues, but a pop of color of any kind is sure to cause a buzz.

Supplies

Your favorite chocolate cupcakes
Batch of classic buttercream frosting
Neon food gels
Toothpick
Pastry bags with attachment

Directions

Allow freshly baked cupcakes to cool before attempting to fill, otherwise this won't work!

Divide your frosting into small containers (the number will depend upon how many different colors you wish to make) and using a toothpick, stir in a small amount of food gels until desired color is achieved.

Load one color of frosting into a pastry bag fitted with a basic attachment. Find an inconspicuous area on a cupcake (if using cupcake toppers this can be the top, otherwise, opt for the bottom) and gently press the nozzle into cupcake until it is about 1/4 inch deep. Using one hand squeeze frosting into cupcake just until frosting begins to ooze back out of cake. Wipe off any over flow, top with neon toppers and you’re ready to go!

Repeat the process for each cupcake using different colors. You may want to fill with one color frosting, then top with another.
