When planning a party with any specific color scheme, it’s important that the menu coordinate with your theme, to give your party overall cohesiveness.
For my yellow theme party, I tied bananas into the dessert table (and lemons into other areas.) To fit the additional Kentucky Derby tie in, I created “Big Brown’s Banana Pudding Shooters” in miniature parfait glasses/tall shot glasses.
I just love desserts in miniature form. They can be separated and dispersed throughout a table, yet again, for added color, not to mention the fact that they’re just more fun to eat!
I modified several different recipes to create this recipe. Surprisingly, there are no actual bananas because we didn’t want to risk them turning brown before guests arrived. These are so simple to create, and are beyond delicious!
1 box Vanilla Wafers, finely crushed
2 cups milk
1 box Instant Banana Cream Pudding
1 8-ounce package Cream Cheese, softened
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 12-ounce container of Cool Whip, thawed
Hot Glue Gun
Using a food processor, finely crush vanilla wafers until smooth (make sure clumps are removed.) Set aside in a separate bowl. In a mixing bowl, combine milk and pudding until well blended. Using another bowl, combine cream cheese and condensed milk until smooth. Fold cool whip into cream cheese/milk mixture. Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended. For assembly, layer each parfait/shot glass with crushed vanilla wafers and pudding mix, alternating until you reach the top. Top with either plain cool whip or pudding mixture.
To make the flags, cut small strips of grosgrain ribbon (I cut them at a diagonal.) Hot glue a ribbon strip to the top of a toothpick and firmly press together to ensure flag does not slip to the bottom of the tooth pick. Insert into dessert right before serving along with appetizer spoon.
