This winter warmer gives French toast a new image.

French toast is no longer just for the weekends. We like to bake our French toast as it's a great way to get your little chefs to lend a hand in the kitchen and offer a warm alternative to cereal on winter school days or to liven up your brunch table over the holidays.

These toast pieces were baked with Nutella, and then topped with fresh banana and chopped hazelnuts for a decadent addition. You can top yours with anything you'd like - chocolate chips, berries, ice cream - just follow the basic recipe and you can create limitless possibilities in the kitchen!

Ingredients:

6 slices of wheat bread

3 eggs

1 cup of whole milk

6 tablespoons of Nutella

1/2 cup of chopped hazelnuts

3 bananas

(Optional pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon)

Directions:

Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Meanwhile, line a cupcake tray with 6 liners, then set aside while you mix the batter.

In a large mixing bowl, add eggs, milk and optional spices and whisk until fully blended.

Slice your bread diagonally down the side until you reach the center of the bread. Then, place it in the batter and coat the bread completely.

Gently twist the bread slice so that it resembles a floral shape and place it in one of the liners of the cupcake tray.

Repeat this process for each slice of bread.

Before placing in the oven, give each bread slice a dollop of Nutella and then bake for 10-12 minutes at 375F or until golden brown.

Top with fresh banana and chopped hazelnuts before serving!
