Oscar Party Decor

  • Create amethyst-colored floral arrangements in brushed silver metal containers to replicate the various centerpieces that will adorn the Governors Ball party tables.
  • Drape Champagne-colored lengths of satin fabric over neutral tablecloths on a food buffet or on side tables in the living room. Add another overlay of purple tulle fabric on certain tables for a delicate finish.
  • Consider purple satin curtains for a dramatic entryway. Simply purchase lengths of fabric and sew (or glue) a pocket along the top end of the fabric for each curtain. Insert a wood dowel into each curtain's pocket and hang it on a couple of removeable hooks.
  • Use green glass plates and accents for tableware, and illuminate the party with votive candles in glass holders.
  • To give it an award-winning touch, look for gold statuettes and similar party decor.
  • Go over-the-top by rolling out a red carpet that leads to your front door or in your foyer. Add a couple of red-velvet ropes to give take it to a V.I.P. level.

Oscar Party Menu

  • You can't go wrong with "sliders" or mini hamburgers, which is what Wolfgang Puck is serving at the ball.
  • A selection of nibblers such as tempura shrimp, gourmet pizzas cut into bite-size pieces, potstickers, and spring rolls are ideal for this party and featured on the official menu.
  • Serve an array of chocolate sweets and cupcakes for dessert. Macarons in a variety of flavors will be on the Governors Ball dessert table along with chocolate Oscars dusted in edible gold.
  • Pour flutes of Moet & Chandon Champagne, the official bubbly of the Oscars.

Oscar Party Activities

  • Voting on the Academy Awards at home is always a favorite activity at an Oscar party.
  • Mail Academy Awards ballots to guests before the party or hand them out as everyone arrives along with pens.
  • You'll find a list of nominees on Oscars.org.
  • Ask guests to fill out the ballots before the televised ceremony starts.
  • After the ceremony, tally up each person's ballot to determine who guessed the most official winners to find your winner!
  • Raise the stakes by turning this activity into a betting pool where each participant contributes $5 or more, and the pot goes to the winner.
