Whether it's a birthday party or an outdoor family soiree, the kids need a fun activity to keep them entertained and what could be more fun than panning for gold in the wild west?
The idea of the game is to have the kids collect as many gold nuggets hidden in a sandy, water filled pool. The trick is they can't use their hands - only pie pans!
Materials
Pie pans
small rocks
gold spray paint
sand
baby pool & water
The small rocks and pie pans were found at the Dollar Tree so this is an inexpensive project to pull together.
Set Up
It's easy to set up a panning area outside with just a few simple items. You could have the kids turn in their "gold" in exchange for small trinkets or their favor bags.
Begin by dividing the rocks and spray painting some of them with gold metallic spray paint, to look like gold nuggets.
For the panning area, fill a baby pool with sand, rocks, and "gold nuggets". Add in enough water to cover.

How to Play
Have the kids use the pie pans as the sifting pans and scoop up a pile of sand and rocks. Sift the pan back and forth emptying out the pan to reveal if there are any gold nuggets.
Whoever discovers the most gold nuggets wins!
No hands allowed - kids must only use their pans.
