Paper Accordion Centerpiece & Gift Card Holder

Most of our family lives out of state, which makes gift giving difficult. We can’t do large or breakable gifts because sending them through the mail or even traveling with them just isn’t feasible.

So, I’m stuck giving gift cards every year. I love gift giving and gift cards aren’t super personable to me, so I love coming up with ways to make them a bit more special. Use this tutorial to make a paper accordion gift card holder.

Not doing gift cards this year but you have a paper accordion making addiction like me? Make up a batch and “plant” them in a pot to use as a centerpiece or holiday décor. These paper accordions are so whimsical and fun!

Supplies:

Cardstock

2 inch Circle Punch

1 ½ inch Circle Punch

Hot Glue

Lollipop Sticks

Floral Foam

Miniature Pots or Bucket

Moss or Shredded Paper

Directions:

Step 1: Cut 2 – 12 x 2 inch (for larger accordions) or 2 – 12 x 1 1/2 inch strips (for smaller accordions) of cardstock per accordion.

Step 2: Fold the strips, like an accordion, and glue the 2 strips together to form a circle.

Step 3: Push the circle together and add hot glue to the center. Hold in place until the glue hardens, taking care not to touch the hot glue.

Step 4: Punch a 2 inch circle (for larger accordions) or a 1 1/2 inch circle (for smaller accordions) out of cardstock and hot glue to the center of the accordion.

Step 5: Glue a lollipop stick to the back of the accordion. Repeat steps 1-5 until you have your desired number of accordions.

Step 6: To make a paper accordion centerpiece, place floral foam in a bucket and cover with moss. Stick accordions in the bucket and display as a centerpiece or holiday décor.

Step 7: To make a paper accordion gift card holder, place floral foam in a miniature pot and cover with moss. Attach a scrapbook paper tag to the lollipop stick with the receivers name. Punch two holes in the gift card packaging and place the lollipop stick through the holes, and then place the stick in the miniature pot.
