More Party Ideas

A Party for the Cure can be a get together where people write a check or it can be a Silent Auction - or both! Here are a few ideas to get you started.A-thons

  • Whether it's a jog, bike, or walk-a-thon these types of events are awesome for raising money and raising spirits!
  • How an "a-thon" works is that people sign up to participate and then go out and request a "per mile" donation, such as $1 for every mile they complete. So, if they complete 10 miles they would collect a $10 donation from those who have committed to $1 per mile.
  • While this kind of event is great to keep party costs down, it takes a lot of initiative and follow-up on the part of the participants. Consider giving a donated prize, like a restaurant gift certificate, to the person who raises the most money.

Silent Auctions

  • Silent Auctions are ideal for communities with deep pockets (meaning certain people have money to spend).
  • Most Silent Auctions are held in conjunction with a party. Items like gift baskets, clothing, restaurant certificates, and everything in between are placed on a table and guests competitively bid on them.
  • How it works is that a piece of paper with the name of the item and lines below the name is placed on the table in front of the item. During the first hour or so of the event, guests browse through the items and write down a bid on the paper if they want that item. Then, other guests write down a higher bid number on the lines below. Often times, there is a suggested minimum bid or the retail value of the item listed on the paper.
  • When the hour or allotted auction time is up, the bidding papers are collected. The winners are determined and the money is collected in exchange for the items. (Tip: try and complete all transactions during the event. Hunting down winners after the event to give them their goods can be a very timely task.)

Yard and Bake Sales

  • This is one of the easiest ways that you can raise money or extra funds at a Party for the Cure.
  • People bring new and gently-used items that they want to sell or baked goods to the event and all monies collected from items sold goes to the charity.
  • Combine the idea of both a yard and bake sale into one big party and consider inviting the local community by putting notices in newspapers and elsewhere.
  • Make sure that people know they can donate without purchase if they like.
  • Reach out to a local church, community center, or public gather spot and ask to host your event there for more exposure.
