If you have a child in grade school chances are you are familiar with the good old tri-fold board.
A tri-fold board is a self-standing display with a main poster board in the middle and two flaps on each side. It is typically about 48" x 36" and made from cardboard or foam board on which you tape photos for display.
You can usually purchase these boards at stores such as Target, office supply stores, and craft stores.
Other materials that will help you put together the display are removable double-sided tape, glue-stick, letter stickers, colored or patterned scrapbook paper, scissors, pencil, and a ruler.
Start by thinking of a title for your display, either the name of the guest of honor or a phrase like "Happy Birthday." Determine the size of the title and use a ruler with a light pencil line to mark where it will be on the board or place the letters in place.
Note: Don't tape or glue anything down until you have decided where all photos and elements will be placed. Otherwise, you may want to move something and tear the board or leave an adhesive mark.
To give the display visual interest, consider putting a couple of overlapping squares of scrapbook paper on the board first and then putting the photos on top of those.
Arrange photos on the board with plenty of space around them almost as if the space was framing the photos.
You can also add thematic elements that you cut out from construction or scrapbook paper such as balloons, sports balls, or items from nature like a tree for a family tree. (I made a board recently and used a Cricut machine to make various sizes of balloons for a birthday board.)
When you're happy with the arrangement of all elements on the board, tape or glue everything down.
Display the board on a place card table or gift table at the party!
