Traditionally, picadillo is a spiced ground beef saute with vibrant ingredients like green olives and capers to brighten up the flavor. Various Latin countries, such as Puerto Rico and Cuba, have their own versions and this recipe is a "2-tablespoons at a time" blend of many cultures' renditions.
Ingredients
1 lb. ground beef
2 tablespoons tomato sauce
2 tablespoons chopped onion
2 tablespoons chopped tomatoes
2 tablespoons chopped green olives stuffed with pimentos
2 tablespoons capers, drained
1/2 Teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 Teaspoon salt and pepper
4 buttered, grilled ciabatta buns or hamburger buns
Directions
Mix together ingredients until thoroughly combined and form 4 patties. Grill burgers on a lightly oiled rack over medium-high heat, 5 minutes on each side for medium burgers. Serve on a bun garnished with your favorite fixings from pepper jack cheese to a spicy mayo!
