Pirate Theme Party: Decorations

More Party Ideas

Everyone knows that the point of being a pirate was to pillage, plunder and discover hidden treasure!

Focus your pirate party's decor scheme around hidden treasure by using faux gold coins and other pirate bounty along with treasure chests, maps, and bones. Here's how to utilize your decorations:

1. Treasure Chest Decorations

The treasure chest is a key element of pirate theme party decor. Not only do they look great and epitomize the theme, but they are also incredibly useful for serving drinks and food.

Target sells a large inflatable pirate chest, although you can also buy similar treasure chests online and in bulk at OrientalTrading.com.

2. Treasure Chest Drinks:

To serve ice cold beer and soft drinks, fill an inflatable treasure chest ($16.00 from Windy City Novelties) with ice, and intermingle faux bones (use old Halloween decorations) and fake pearl strand necklaces to finish off the pirate effect.

3. Treasure Chest Cupcakes:

Treasure chest cupcakes double as decor and dessert for your pirate party.

  • Bake a batch of cupcakes in the flavor of your choosing, and frost liberally.
  • Purchase a large bag of gold chocolate coins and adorn each cupcake with one gold coin placed upright at a slant in the frosting.
  • Pick a visually prominent location within your home for the cupcake chest since it makes an ideal pirate party table centerpiece.
  • Place cake stands or boxes of varying height inside the treasure chest, and cover them with a piece of gold or yellow fabric (you can also use gold tissue or wrapping paper).
  • Arrange cupcakes on top of the fabric so that the entire chest looks like its filled with gold.

4. Treasure Chest Favor Box:

Fill a treasure chest with bags of Pirate's Booty snacks for a fun themed favor that guests can take home at the end of the night.

5. Bones, Coins, and other Pirate Baubles

Finish the decorations for your pirate theme party by adding bones, gold chocolate coins, and jewelry such as beaded or faux pearl necklaces in and around the treasure chests. You can also create a faux pirate map to place on the table.

Carefully burn the edges of crumpled brown paper, and use a Sharpie pen to draw the route to the treasure with an X marking the spot.
