Red Wine French Toast Recipe

More Party Ideas

Who says you can’t enjoy some red wine with your breakfast? A good way to do this is to enjoy your Red Wine in breakfast.

Whip up some French toast, adding red wine to both the egg batter and in some homemade syrup. The flavor will be subtle and not too overwhelming, but bold enough to really get across the red wine taste.

This recipe is also great for an unexpected dessert!

Ingredients

For French Toast

1/2 tablespoon Butter, for Cooking
2 Eggs, Beaten
1/4 cup Milk
2 tablespoons Red Wine
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon Salt
4 pieces of Thick Sourdough Bread

For Red Wine Syrup

1/2 cup Real Maple Syrup
1/4 cup Red Wine

Directions

Place a skillet over medium heat and melt ½ tablespoon of butter in the pan.

While the pan is heating up, whisk together the eggs, milk, red wine, cinnamon, and salt in a medium bowl. Fully submerge 1 piece of sourdough bread into the egg mixture. Carefully transfer the piece of sourdough onto the heated skillet. Repeat with another piece of bread until you have filled up the skillet – I normally do 2 at a time.

Cook the French Toast until both sides turn a dark golden brown. Repeat the above process with the remaining pieces of bread.

When ready to serve, make the red wine syrup. In a small pan, heat the maple syrup and red wine until warm. Serve the syrup along side the French Toast.
