Santa Suit Shoebox

Unless your child is at the age of the dreaded diorama, chances are you have a ton of extra shoe boxes buried in the back of your closet. Instead of purchasing a dozen gift bags and countless yards of wrapping paper that will eventually just get tossed and forgotten, reuse those empty shoe boxes to make a festive gift box and clear some of that clutter out of your closet!

This inexpensive Christmas craft is so simple even the kids can help make these fun gift boxes. This handmade gift wrap idea will give any present that extra special, personalized touch.

And while I originally made these shoe boxes with gift wrap in mind, they can be used to store any holiday-themed items like craft supplies or even the assortment of holiday cards you are sure to receive! Just add or draw on a label to the front of the box for easy storing and organizing!

Supplies

Red and black heavyweight or construction paper
Scissors
Shoebox with lid
Tape and double-stick tape
White self-adhesive trim (Martha Stewart brand)
Holiday-striped scrapbook paper
Scallop or decorative edge scissors
Small aluminum metal sheets, lightweight (available at many craft stores) or heavyweight foil if the kids are making this craft
White glue
Silver metal brads

Directions

Step 1: Cut red paper to fit the top lid and sides of the shoebox and use double-stick tape to secure it. Fold the corners as you like for a neat presentation.

Step 2: Add white self-adhesive trim to the bottom edge of the lip.

Step 3: Use scallop edge scissors to trim holiday-striped paper and make a top piece or collar for Santa's suit. Adhere the striped paper to the lid using double-stick tape.

Step 4: Cut a strip of black paper for Santa's belt.

Step 5: Cut out a belt buckle from metal sheets or use household aluminum foil. Attach the buckle to the black belt using a little glue or double-stick tape.

Step 6: Give Santa some buttons using metal brads or any buttons (Tip: Use a tack to make a hole first and then insert a brad).

Step 7: Cover the bottom of the shoebox with striped paper and using double-stick tape.
