Hosting a New Year's Eve party at home is meant to be fun and fabulous, but it's also not supposed to be stressful or too much work to pull off.
Just a week after Christmas and other holiday celebrations, it's easy to understand how easy it might be to get overwhelmed with the idea of planning a glam NYE party. With a few tips and tricks from us though, we promise it can actually be quite painless!
This year, in addition to a few tried and true tricks we use every year, the secret ingredient to our fab New Year's Eve soiree is glitter.
Glitter is the perfect way to glam up your party. We're using both crafting glitter as well as edible glitter to glam up our celebration.
Tip #1: Skip dinner.
OK, well, don't exactly skip it, but don't feed a big meal to your party guests either! NYE is the midnight party of the year, which means you can ask guests to come over post-dinnertime and it's acceptable. Aim for a party start between 8 and 9 pm.
Tip #2: Get crazy with edible glitter!
Then, serve up a sweet meal of mini bites. We're talking mini cupcakes, brownies, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate dipped strawberries and whatever else you love!
You don't even have to go crazy baking all these things from scratch. You can purchase them from the store, then add your own glam touch to the mix.
This is where the edible glitter comes in! Dip frosted cupcakes in it or sprinkle it atop chocolate covered anything.
Tip #3: Save on bubbly without looking cheap.
What's a New Year's Eve party without bubbly, right? We know it's a must-have for the party, but it can also be one of the biggest budget busters.
First things first - stock up on budget bubbly in advance! A quick trip to the liquor store as far in advance as possible is best as prices will only climb as the holiday approaches.
Also, don't feel required to get the most expensive bottle. You can dress up a cheap bottle of sparkling wine with a secret ingredient. Vanilla! We add just a teensy, tiny drop of vanilla extract to each champagne flute, then top with bubbly. It softens the more bitter taste typical of cheaper bottles, so it becomes a pretty delicious sip!
Finally, rim your glass in something and dunk it in edible glitter! We used melted white chocolate but simple syrup will do the trick, too!
Tip #4: Add a dose of festivity the DIY way.
You've already decked your house out in holiday decorations and now is not the time to take it all down. A short budget, a bit of DIY effort and a lot of glitter will go a long way in dressing up your party. Add a dose of fabulous to your party with one of these ideas:
Tip #5: DUH!
It's probably the most oft repeated tip for any party hostess to follow, but also the hardest one to stick with: ENJOY yourself!
New Year's Eve is a casual celebration, not a complicated one. If it's not perfect, who cares?!
