Supplies

Tulle --buying it on a spool streamlines your cutting, or you can purchase a few yards if you are buying it on the bolt. Select one color or many a fun rainbow look.
Scissors
Ribbon or elastic
Tape Measure
Needle and thread for elastic (optional)

Directions

Step 1: Measure the waist of your intended princess. If you’re using elastic, use this exact length and tie the ends together. (You can add a stitch with needle and thread here if you’d like.) If you are using ribbon, add about one foot to your measurement so you can tie the ends when you put it on. Add more length if you’d like extra ribbon to trail down.

Step 2: Cut your tulle into strips about 4 inches wide -- if you’re using a spool this is done for you. For the length, decide how long you want the tutu and double that measurement for each strip. So, if you are want a tutu that is 20 inches long, your strips should be 40 inches long.   

Step 3: Double knot your first strip onto your ribbon or elastic so that the knot is at the midpoint of the tulle strip.

Step 4: Continue with additional strips, sliding them together as you go. If you’re using multiple colors, put two or three of each color together before switching to the next to saturate your color.

Keep going until you reach the end of your elastic, or about 6 inches in on either end of your ribbon, and your desired fullness. Trim the ends slightly to even it out if desired. Put it on your princess and get ready for fun!
