Supplies

• Blank handmade recycled notebooks (you can either make your own or purchase some)
• Light colored lightweight burlap fabric or any natural fabric
• Jute / raffia/ abaca string/twine
• Glue gun and glue stick
• Scallop shell or any seashell of your choice (pick a seashell that is flat)
• Needle
• Textured papers with marine color tones or patterns
• Photo of your favorite beach
• Scraps of natural fabrics such as linen and unbleached muslin
• Natural fabric ribbons
• Capiz shell buttons

Instructions

• Wipe the surface of the journal clean from stray materials.
• Determine the size of your fabric embellishment and cut accordingly. You can use pattern edged scissors to create a nice edging around the fabric. Iron the fabric afterwards.
• Using an upholstery needle, sew running stitches around the fabric to create a border around the fabric. At this point you may want to embellish the fabric with more items such as a fabric overlap or natural buttons. Get creative on this part!
• Hot glue the fabric on the surface of the journal cover.
• Hot glue a seashell accent in the middle of fabric. You're done!
