We've been playing around with spiked smoothie recipes lately - they're a great way to kick back, relax and enjoy a sweeter treat if you're old enough. Rather than piling a bowl full of ice cream complete with toppings, we decided to blend up something a bit healthier.
Though it's been on our radar for quite some time, frozen bananas that get blended in your mixer make for an awesome alternative to ice cream. It's a great substitute if you're looking to cut back on calories, but also lends itself well as the base to many a spiked smoothie recipe.
For this recipe, we combined our favorite combo, peanut butter and jelly, with our frozen bananas - the result? A quirky spiked smoothie that's sweet, savory and all kinds of refreshing.
Ingredients:
2 bananas cut into 1/2 inch slices
2 tablespoons dark chocolate peanut butter
1/4 cup Van Gogh's Peanut Butter and Jelly vodka
1/4 cup milk (we prefer 1 cup for a creamier mix)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
chocolate chips or banana slice for garnish, optional
Directions:
Step 1: Freeze your sliced bananas for at least 4 hours, up to overnight.
Step 2: Once frozen, add your bananas to a blender and incorporate all your other ingredients. Blend well - you don't want any lumps!
Step 3: Pour into your glass, garnish with either chocolate chips or a banana slice, then enjoy!
