40th and 50th Birthday Gift Guide Tips

Stay organized and create one of a kind cards for a 40th or 50th birthday with these tips.

Stay Organized:

  • I keep notes in my Rolodex about "favorite things" that friends and business colleagues have shared with me.
  • If a friend tells me that she went to dinner and had a great glass of champagne, I note in my Rolodex - "likes champagne."
  • My good friend Naomi loves everything that involves cats, and so I listed "loves cats" in her Rolodex entry. Recently, I gave her a box of beautiful cat-motif note cards for her birthday, and she thought they were simply purrfect!

Personalize Cards:

  • To personalize the birthday card, I score points by "collaging" postcards with funny "inside" jokes and sayings glued and glittered to the front and back.
  • Cut out letters from a magazine to create ransom note "style" lettering. Rubber cement works well for adhering paper on notecards and postcards.
  • Sending a homemade or "bedazzled" birthday card is sure to make the birthday boy or girl's day. Try out Michael's Paper Crafts for some handy suggestions.
