The DIY Bride

Let’s not kid ourselves – those of us who have never handled a glue gun should not start now by experimenting with wedding crafts. 

This just isn’t the right time, even if you believe you will be saving money by making your own place cards or decorating favor boxes. 

The truth is, you probably won’t.  

Unless you are taking on an incredibly simple DIY wedding project, the more likely scenario is you will spend lots of money on supplies and lots of time trying to figure out how to put the craft together.

Whether the DIY project will turn out well in mass quantities then becomes a very stressful guessing game, which is no fun at all.

Conversely, if you are crafty, really enjoy being creative and have received compliments on your finished projects, are you the perfect candidate for the DIY wedding?  

That depends on two factors – while planning your wedding, do you also have enough time and a big-enough workspace to devote to the DIY activities?   

If the answer is yes to both, proceed to “Go.” And you’re in for a treat, because these days, the internet is loaded with inspirational DIY wedding ideas and instructions.

Before you get started, however, do consider the following:

One great way to bond with your bridal party is to involve them in your DIY wedding project, but if you’re a perfectionist, you may be disappointed at some of the finished product. 

If that happens, remember that not everyone is blessed with crafting skills. And purchase extra supplies, in case you have to touch up or redo some of your girls’ work.

Allow plenty of time for completing the project. Even the most organized and skilled crafter might become overwhelmed by the sheer volume that is required for a wedding reception or ceremony craft. 

Make sure you have a safe and secure place to store your wedding DIY projects once they are finished. 

On the day of the wedding, have a basket of extra supplies on hand just in case. It’s also a good idea to designate someone you trust as a fixer-upper, so you don’t end up touching up paint in your wedding gown!
