After we heard from readers last year that they were looking for healthier alternatives to the usual dinner party menu suggestions, we asked contributor Courtney Horan to whip up a few recipes. This chicken broccoli alfredo was actually the very first of her skinny dinner ideas we posted and it still gets a TON of readers daily.
And because Courtney saves you calories at dinner, you can enjoy this yummy cake recipe at dessert, too. She turned a basic box mix into a margarita cake that's perfect for adult birthdays, cinco de mayo or any party, really!
Jell-O shots burst back onto the party scene this year and while our margarita Jell-O shots (further into this gallery) made the top 10 cut, it was Krissy's layered candy corn shots for Halloween that went really wild in 2012.
It's hard to ignore layers of bright colors to begin with, but when they come in mason jar cupcake form they're downright impossible to resist. I don't have to tell you why these adorable treats make it into our top 10 list for 2012!
Krissy isn't just clever with cocktails - we actually LOVE what she can do in the kitchen with dessert. Her recipes, like these funfetti waffles from this year, are pretty, creative and all around inspiring.
Chicken tenders have to be one of those party recipes that never get old and always please a crowd. Emily added a spicy twist to the original recipe and proved how good giving a kick to the old classic can be!
She shared so many yummy treats with us in 2012, so it's not hard to believe a third recipe of Krissy's made the top 10 cut. These red velvet funnel cakes are a real twist on the dessert we all enjoyed as kids!
Like I said, Jell-O shots emerged as a top cocktail trend for 2012. They're not just for frat parties or served in little paper cups anymore. Instead, they're sophisticated, chic and fabulous - don't believe me? Check out the fun we had with these margarita Jell-O shots in a lime and a few of our other favorite recipes.
Another party meal that made the cut? Courtney's low-fat mac and cheese complete with tomatoes, chicken and broccoli. Not only is it super creamy, cheesy and filling, it's also something the kids will love!
Last on our list is of course, a cocktail! Coryanne's one of the most talented cocktail creators around these parts and her 9 1/2 weeks inspired martini recipe is a tried and true favorite from 2012.
