Thomas the Tank Engine Birthday Party Games and Activities

Did you know that there are train parks where you can host your child's birthday party? Whether you go all out and rent a train car or create a train depot in the backyard, these games and activities will keep the little ones chugging along and happy throughout the party.Train Park Parties

  • When my son was turning 3 we had a Thomas the Tank Engine Party at a train park. We were able to host the party in a train car where refreshments and a crafts table were set up.
  • The kids ran around the park climbing on trains, with their parent's supervision, and then came back to the party car throughout the day and for cake. It was a great way to keep a bunch of wiggly 3-year-olds entertained!
  • Inquire in your area about a train park where you can have a picnic party or rent a train car, or perhaps there is a parked train car or even a train museum that has an hourly rental program for kid parties.

Day Out With Thomas

  • Thomas goes on tour just like a train rock star! The Day Out with Thomas program is awesome for kids that adore Thomas.
  • Check the official website for when Thomas, Sir Topham Hat, and their party on wheels may be coming your way and Thomas' special appearance may just coincide with your child's birthday.
  • Even if the Day Out With Thomas scheduled trip to your area isn't around your child's birthday it's a thrilling event for the kids who love their beloved tank engine TV star.

Playing with Thomas the Tank Engine Sets at the Party

  • Chances are, your child has a bunch of wooden Thomas trains, tracks, and accessories that they spend hours playing with. Invite guests to bring along their trains, tracks, even the toy scenery so everyone can have a big old train-fest!
  • MAKE SURE THAT ALL TRAINS ARE LABELLED WITH THEIR OWNER'S NAME. Can't stress this enough! Give parents a heads up or provide labels to mark the trains and avoid total train trauma if the ownership of a brand new Percy or Gordon is in question!
  • And if you feel that your child or other friends may have an issue sharing, my feeling is that a birthday party isn't the place to work all that out. So, consider the size of the party and the personality of the guest of honor for this activity.

Train Whistle Musical Chairs

  • Use a train whistle to give Musical Chairs a special train touch.
  • Set up chairs in a row, side by side, as is usually the case for Musical Chairs. Use one less chair than your guest count.
  • Play music as the children circle the chairs.
  • Right before you stop the music (the traditional signal for kids to sit in a chair) blow a wooden train whistle - and then stop the music.
  • Remove a chair and repeat the steps until 1 child is left sitting in a chair.
  • To speed up the game you can remove more chairs after each round.

Train Arts and Crafts Table

  • Most small children love craft tables at a party and a train theme provides many ideas.
  • Print out Thomas & Friends coloring sheets from the Thomas website and place them on the table with baskets of crayons or markers.
  • Decorate wooden train whistles with paint, markers, stickers, or glitter.
  • Place a container of Thomas the Tank Engine temporary tattoos on the table along with a moist sponge on a plate so the kids can ink up!
  • Hire a face painter or ask an artistic friend to paint the little guests' faces using a face paint kit. Have a Thomas the Tank Engine book on hand so the kids can choose which train they want to be painted as.
