Trivia games and slideshows are easy entertainment for an 80th birthday party. What about the other party details? Here's a list of ideas from food to clothing choices that will make this party one to remember.
  • Party guests will come in their own "modern" clothes. Have the guest of honor and his guests dress in 1940s attire.
  • Serve birthday cake and party food on tables draped in vintage tablecloths.
  • Decorate with movie posters and sports paraphernalia from the 1940s and today. Search eBay for modern and vintage items in both areas. Check movieposters.com for vintage options.
  • You can also hit estate sales, antique shops and online auctions for books and toys (the slinky debuted in 1949) for toys and other items to use as decorations.
  • Create a playlist of songs popular today and in the 1940s.
  • The microwave oven was invented in 1946. Serve microwave dinners alongside simple appetizers.
