Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Originally written in 1939 by Robert May, an employee of Montgomery Ward, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was a poem that the department store publicized to boost holiday sales. Years later, in 1949, Gene Autry recorded a song about the off-beat reindeer which catapulted him to fame!
