Summer parties and good music go hand-in-hand. As the summer quickly approaches, I find myself looking forward to the picnics, barbeques and pool parties, and thinking about good summer party music.
We've got a great round up of summer party playlists, but unfortunately, there are also some summer party songs that have actually become a little cliché and boring. Sure, there’s some nostalgia, but I am a little tired of hearing the same songs over and over again! There are plenty of great tunes out there that are perfect for the warm weather other than playing “Sweet Home Alabama” all the time.
So, if you’re a music snob like me and want to avoid the typical cheesy summer party playlist, stay clear of my top cliché summer party anthems.
Say No to These Cliche Summer Party Songs!
Sugar Ray - Fly
This song is kind of confusing. You’re not sure if it’s pop, rock or reggae. And I’m not really sure what this song is actually about!
Nelly - Hot in Herre
Not exactly a PG song to play in your backyard barbeque full of young ones. Keep this off your list if you’re looking to stay kid friendly.
Sisqo - Thong Song
No explanation needed.
Sheryl Crow - Soak Up the Sun
This song is incredibly boring and quiet literally puts me to sleep.
LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem
This song is SO last summer. It has been all over TV and the internet this past year that I’m ready to hear their next song and see if they are a one hit wonder.
Outkast - Hey Ya!
With repetitive sounds that resemble screaming, I won’t be sad if this song is skipped this summer.
Jason Mraz - I’m Yours
It was sweet at first and then it became The Song That Never Left the Radio.
Miley Cirus - Party in the USA
Katy Perry - California Girls
Because many of us are also from Pennsylvania, Florida, Tennessee, New York and the list goes on - and we're all just as fun.
House of Pain - Jump Around
Just hearing the words “jump around” is migraine inducing.
Jackson 5 - ABC
Sure, it's a fun party classic, but it’s summertime! No one wants to hear about school!
