Make use of the grill (not just in the warm weather, either!) for some delicious and utterly simple going-away apps. Slide a few cubes of chicken, beef, and vegetables onto skewers, drizzle with a little olive oil, salt and pepper, and grill. These can be served in no time flat.
Ingredients
Whole Wheat Pizza Dough (available at your local grocery store)
Fresh Mozarella Cheese
Some Fresh Tomatoes
Fresh Basil -- sliced into strips
Olive Oil and Salt and Pepper
Directions
Dice up fresh tomatoes and put them in a bowl with the basil, a drizzle of olive oil and salt and pepper.
Next, roll out the dough on a floured countertop and brush both sides with a little olive oil so it doesnt stick.
With the grill turned up to high heat, carefully transfer the dough onto the grill and close the top.
Wait until the bottom of the dough becomes crisp and has grill marks and then flip it over.
Place slices of fresh mozzarella on the side of the dough with the grill marks and close the grill again so that the cheese melts.
Top with the tomato and basil mixture and wait until the underside gets crispy before taking the flatbread off the grill and cutting it up.
Garnish with toothpicks (available at most dollar or specialty stores) that say Au Revoir and Bon Voyage.
