Once the holidays hit, streets are filled with bright lights that glisten in the streets, and store windows filling up with new and exciting toys and gifts.  But, did you know that the greatest gift you can give someone doesn’t even have to cost you a dime? This year, consider volunteering at your local charity organization. Volunteering during the holidays is so much more than just giving back to the community – you’re also spreading hope and cheer while creating a personal bond with the people you are helping.

There are so many different ways to volunteer and get involved! From serving Thanksgiving dinner at a soup kitchen, to gathering and gift-wrapping donations for the children, there is a perfect job for everyone.  Just make sure to plan ahead – there are usually more volunteers than spots, so choose your organization a few months ahead of time.

If you’re feeling extra generous this year, you may want to organize your own charity team. Gather your friends and family and give back in your own way! Perhaps you want to host a special potluck dinner for the less privileged families in your neighborhood, or host an event to raise donations and money. If you live in a small town or tight-knit community, hosting a Holiday Concert to benefit your favorite cause is a great way to inspire your fellow neighbors to get into the volunteering mood, as well. Invite bands from the local High Schools or Universities to play their favorite holiday inspired songs. You can even try contacting local businesses such as bakeries and restaurants to sponsor your event, with all proceeds going to your favorite organization or cause. One person really can make a difference.

If you decide to organize your own team, you should make sure to have a business or contact card on hand. You never know who takes an interest and wants to help you spread your joy. Make sure even your business cards are spreading holiday cheer by choosing some festive business Christmas cards! Choosing a holiday themed business card will also help your card stand out among those other plain, white business cards most businessmen swear by.

You’d be surprised at how far just a little kindness can go. It can change someone’s life, giving them a newfound hope. You may not even realize when they change your life, as well, filling you with an irreplaceable holiday warmth! Leaving those that you have helped with a keepsake is also a fantastic way to say “thank you” for giving you the opportunity to share the holidays with them and their family for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Personalized photo cards are a great little keepsake that your new friends will appreciate for years to come. You can include a personal note and a special photo of your family. Or to make it even more memorable, you can even take a photo of your family and your new friends together, bringing in the holidays.
