Walk Down Memory Lane Invitations

Craft a creative DIY birthday invitation that fits perfectly with the 'walk down memory lane' theme.

Directions

  • Supplies:
    • 3" craft punch (can also trace a glass with a 3" opening and cut out with scissors)
    • 4" craft punch (can also trace a glass with a 4" opening and cut out with scissors)
    • Scanned or digital photos from every decade (8 pictures total)
    • 2.5 feet of " thick ribbon for every invitation
    • 2 sheets of colorful scrapbook paper per invitation
    • 4 sheets of regular white printer paper per invitation
    • Glue Stick
    • Tape
    • Large card-sized envelope in coordinating color

    Instructions:

    Step 1. Resize the pictures digitally so that they are about 3.5 inches high and arrange four to a page to save printer paper. Print out all eight pictures from each decade of the birthday person's life on two sheets of paper (4 per page).

    Step 2. Use the 3" craft punch to cut out a circular vignette from each photo, and set photos aside.

    Step 3. Use a circular label template in Word to create 3" circles on the page that you can type text into. In each circle, add one piece of information about the party. Here's a general idea of what to write in each circle:

    1st circle: You've Invited
    2nd circle: To Take a Walk Down Memory Lane
    3rd circle: In Honor of {Insert Name of Birthday Guy or Gal}'s 80th Birthday
    4th circle: {Insert the Date of the Party and the Time}
    5th circle: {Insert the Address where the party will be located}
    6th circle: Arrive dressed in the style of clothing from the year you were born.
    7th circle: Please RSVP by {final RSVP date} to {name of party host}
    8th circle: We Can't Wait to See You There!

    Step 4. Print out the 2 pages of circles with text, and use the 3" craft punch to cut them into individual circles.

    Step 5. Use the 4" craft punch to create 8 circles from the colorful or patterned scrapbook paper page.

    Step 6. Tie a bow on one side of the ribbon, which should leave one short bow end and one long hanging piece of ribbon. Begin affixing the large 4 inch scrapbook paper circles with tape to the long hanging end of the ribbon, evenly spaced apart. Once you reach the other end of the ribbon, tie a bow in the loose end. You should now have two small bows on either end of the ribbon, with eight 4" circles taped and hanging in the middle.

    Step 7. On one side of the 4" paper circles, use the glue stick to paste on the 3" circular pictures in chronological order. Begin with the first decade of the birthday person's life, and proceed to their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, and finally a recent picture of them.

    Step 8. Flip the project over to the back side (which shows the back of the craft paper, a piece of tape and the back of the ribbon), and use a glue stick to paste on the party's details on the remaining 3" circles.

    Step 9. Stack the circles accordion style inside the envelope, weigh it to make sure you do not need extra postage, and send it off! Guests will be delighted to receive such a unique and thoughtful party invitation.
