Warm Cranberry Compote with a Walnut Streusel Topping

As an alternative to opening a can, perk up your traditional cranberry dish with this easy compote.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. (about 7 cups) fresh cranberries, rinsed
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup ground walnuts

Directions

  • Place cranberries, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a large saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until cranberries are just tender and mixture thickens, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Transfer to a large casserole dish.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Mix together butter, brown sugar, flour, and walnuts until just combined and crumbly. Crumble brown sugar mixture over cranberries. Bake for 20 minutes until top is golden brown. Cool to room temperature. Serve in casserole dish.

    Makes about 5 cups
