The next time you've got friends over sipping drinks, break out a handmade snack dish to enhance the celebration and impress your guests. Gather up all your wine corks lying around and use them to make a classy homemade wine cork dish!
This craft utilizes two items you’ll have plenty of after any party: an aluminum beer or soda can, and wine corks. Each dish requires only six corks, so you won’t have to save endlessly to make one, either!
Follow these easy directions for your homemade wine cork snack dish!
1 empty aluminum beverage can
Brown spray paint (optional)
6 wine corks
Step 1: Start off by making a horizontal slit in the aluminum can, about 2 1/2 inches from the bottom. Insert the tip of the scissors into the slit and cut around the can carefully. Throw the top half into the recycling, or save it for another project.
Step 2: Cut 1/2-inch vertical slits about every 1/2-inch all the way around the top of the cut can.
Step 3: Fold the tabs around the top of the cut can down toward the inside of the can. (Be careful, the edges will be sharp!)
Step 4: Tape over the folded tabs with clear tape.
Step 5: Spray paint the aluminum can brown, if desired. You can skip this step, but the can graphics may be visible in places.
Step 6: While the paint dries, cut each wine cork in half lengthwise on a cutting board with a serrated knife. It's best to do this with corks that aren't super dry otherwise they're too brittle to make a clean cut.
Step 7: Finish off by hot gluing the cork halves around the dry painted can. Allow the glue to set before using.
Now you can be proud of your finished homemade wine cork dish! Complete it by filling it with pub mix, candies or flowers!
