Q&A with Tracey Toomey and Leanne Shear
Leanne and Tracey are two ladies who know how to have a good time. Long time Celebrations.com experts, these two have been teaching us the ins and outs of the cocktail world since right around the time Celebrations.com started. They whipped up fabulous signature cocktails for one of the weddings on I Do Over and we were thrilled they took a break from their shaking and stirring lives to answer a few of our burning mixology and show questions.
What was your favorite experience/memory from filming?
It was a lot of fun interacting with the couple. They were adorable, seemed very much in love, and could not have been more excited and appreciative about the cocktails.
Why does a signature cocktail add such a level of personalization to a wedding?
It just makes it so much more special. With a signature cocktail, not only can you link a drink to the couple’s personal tastes and preferences, thus making it that much more enjoyable for them, you can also create a much more memorable experience for both the couple and the guests.
What advice would you offer for a couple trying to create their own signature drink at home?
Don’t try too hard, and that advice is twofold. First, don’t try to duplicate a crazy and complex cocktail you read about in a magazine because it sounds glamorous. Instead, focus on using ingredients and spirits that you truly like. Similarly, keep the cocktail itself fairly simple–that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be creative and use fresh ingredients, though. You just don’t have to use 100 different elements to craft one fun drink.
How did you guys get into the world of cocktails and what do you love about it?
We started the good, old-fashioned way: by working behind the bar together. And what do we love about it? What’s NOT to love about cocktails? We love everything….except neon-colored fake liqueurs
What is each of your signature cocktails and why?
It’s tough to name a signature cocktail for each of us because we both love try different things all the time–our tastes are constantly evolving. I think key elements of signature cocktails would be uber-fresh ingredients and the use of things like fresh herbs, spices, freshly muddle fruit, etc–no sugary margarita mix for us.
